Homemade LED tape Wall. After working at a church and never having any type of budget. We decided it was worth it to make our own. So for one Christmas set, we set out to create homemade led tape wall.
So Much LED.
After making these Homemade led tape walls, I never wanted to work with led tape again. In reality, making these low resolution led walls was quite fun, and the accomplishment of creating all of this by our selves was a great feeling.
The Build process
To begin we started with big panels of masonite. We measured out individual lines to make sure the led tape was straight. We made an assembly process where the staff and volunteers would have a crucial process in creating these led screens. One person would start to hold on to the top of the led tape. The next person would slowly pull the reel down the panel, as the first person made sure it was sticking to the panel.
Using Led tape before we knew that the adhesive never lasts very long. Because of this, we would use gaff tape and stables to make sure the led tape stayed in place. Led tape gets hot and that’s when you run into issues with the adhesive falling apart.

Applying the led tape was a very tedious process. We had to make sure the diodes lined up as best as we could. Not only did the have to line up horizontally, but the tape needed to be straight vertically as well. The great thing with a deep stage, is the further away you are the better you can see the whole picture. Thus why it’s called a low resolution led wall.

Products USed for the homemade led tape wall
We used Enttec a lot with the homemade led tape wall. They provide just about everything you’ll need to be able to control led tape and other products.
Below is a break down of some of the gear used for the wall.
eBay brand pixel mappable led tape.
Entec Pixelator and Pixel Link system
Resolume to control the content that went onto the led walls.

In the end, this was a blast to create. We worked together and created a really dynamic set accomplished a lot. Would I ever make these again? NO. Was the experience fun? Yes, but some unintended consequences of this set is a lasting arthritis in my hands….
